2017.05.20 | 灣仔洪聖古廟 hung shing temple, wanchai
it is hard to imagine this temple was at the sea front back in the early days. another impressive fact is that the temple was built on a big rocky slope. one can still trace the tough terrain looking at the back of this grade 1 building.
this stone piece of historic and folk art value is clearly time-stamped in its original work. the engraving says lee yuk-lung dedicated this stoneware in daoguang year 27 (1847).
according to the temple, it appears to be a lamp-holder which was placed in front of the temple originally. more than 150 years old, it is sitting in a hidden corner, witnessing the buzzing traffic and forgetful hongkongers pass by every day.
