compare to other old districts, cheung sha wan along castle peak road is relatively untouched. this stretch of the busy centre is still sandwiched by old buildings with quite many old shops and eateries running on the ground level of the walk-up blocks. the scenery stays pretty much the same for decades.
tried researching this particular pharmacy online but failed. can’t even find the english registered name, so the name using here is my translation.
adore all the details and possibly minor things to many that create our street-scape. the government has been trying to get rid of neon light and big signboards on the street for the reason of safety, that i agree with the intention, but the cruel truth is that our charismatic and living history are being wiped out at the same time.
back to this shop. the neon light is big, which implies that this pharmacy must be doing quite well, or did well. the interesting thing is that it added a line of chinese, stressing that this store has official pharmacists servicing.
another lovely signage is on the facade. the name of the pharmacy is actually a mosaic work on the wall and the chinese read from right to left that underlines the older fashion of shop name display in hong kong. this is one of the important clues telling me this is an old shop.
