quarry bay history and development is closely tied with swire the conglomerate and the rise of hong kong. its location and setting is also helping this place – quarry and bay, as its name suggests.
pan hoi street is a street that carries very much of the background, history and characteristics of all these elements. the buildings here are very much related to the sugar plant and dockyard based here and were built in the 1960s. there are variation of stories to explain the unique stone terrace of this street block but they mainly developed around water flooding this area.
all these stories due to the stronger sense of local hongkonger are familiarized by many. people seem to know little or more about the residents and the buildings here. i’d like to urge you to pay attention to one more member of this community – these stones and the terrace.
