2016.5.21 | 皇后大道東 queen’s road east
this blog has written a number of building names. most of them are painted big and clear on the facade of the building. this one however is a special case, and a pretty one.
i fairly often commute around wanchai. every time if i was walking pass queen’s road east along this section, i will pay extra few minutes to go in front of this building, simply to appreciate this beautiful iron gate and the well-written name of the building.
i always imagine if the main entrance of this building has its own feeling, it must feel very proud it has been so well-respected and was given such a beautiful treatment, a nicely crafted iron gate with lovely ornament and both the english and chinese name are well calligraphed and craved.
one added note, the chinese and english are written in reverse order. this indicates the history of the building. older generation of hongkongers follow the sequence of chinese to write from right to left.
i couldn’t find exact history of this building so far. but according to news around this building, it is estimated that the building could be built in the 1950s.
