天寒地凍,就是吃蛇羹時。

蛇王二可算是銅鑼灣該帶唯一的老食店。前幾年大陸遊客湧港,地產藥房金鋪發展瘋癲,銅鑼灣各式小店老鋪給全面掃蕩。此店的左鄰右里也不知換了多少臉孔。

每次經過這鋪面,吸引我的是掛起段段肥美油香的臘腸潤腸。雖然叫蛇王,但此店也已燒臘臘味老湯擔起生意。

老派的店子,韻味也充盈門面裝潢和霓虹招牌。老好的中文書法字體,提醒大家這裡的招牌和菜式以及老店的內蘊,暖黃的店燈,還有高懸的霓虹,冬夜經過,頓感溫心。

se wong means snake master. this shop sells snake soups. its name yee means two.

se wong yee is few if not the only surviving old and independent eateries around causeway bay. few years back, when mainland tourist fluxed in and landlords’ minds all turned to drugstore and jewellery operators, causeway bay small and old shops were wiped out.

se wong yee does not sell snake soup only, it is famous for barbecued meat, chinese preserved sausage and meat and well-boiled cantonese soup. but of course what better time to have a snake soup in the middle of bitter winter, according to many old hongkongers.

what i treasure the most about this shop is more than its food, it is its signage and neon light. the pretty calligraphic characters tells the name of the shop and what it sells: snake soup expert and barbecued meat and steam rice.
