青山道那邊少了地面的柱廊，比不上這邊 洪慶燒臘家 騎樓式建築的氣派。樓面經過粉刷，建築添了份典雅，不過翻看老照片，從前海鮮燒臘招牌斗大寫在騎樓外牆，加上打橫伸出青山道的招牌，舊日豪邁的店家派頭不復在。
older residents regard themselves living in shum shui po, rather than the political constituency correct or the mtr-era definition of “cheung sha wan”.
this neighbourhood indeed blows the same good old hong kong vibe; grass root, warm and independent (fewer chain stores).
look at these street corners. the walk-up buildings on both sides resonate the beauty of hong kong old architecture wisdom and rhythm. closer to us is a old-style chinese restaurant specialize in roasts. it has been standing here for decades. recent renovation highlights the almost elegance of the facade and street level veranda, but, to me, some sense of rawness and casualness of tong lau is lost. regardless, i am grateful standing at this corner few days ago, appreciating some old assets of this city are still existing, when my mind can’t help flew to wan chai the same second mourning a little the dying of tung tuk pawn shop.
