hong kong is ever-changing, 99.9% of the time. but the mansions around this block or two seem having great defensive power against this trend. the legendary daimaru department store closed down in the late 1990s; developer created a ‘food street’ around paterson street and that is gone too. but a number of residential buildings along this stretch have been standing tall (well, around 10 storeys) for five decades. nowadays hong kong is overflooded with “luxurious residential” projects, but to me, these solid, elegant and spacious buildings, each with dignified balconies are truly grand and stylish living spaces.
