visiting kowloon bay most of the time is for the big shopping mall there, or once in a very rare case, to go concert at kitec. my latest visit however gave me a little surprise. on the way to kitec walking past big chunks of factory buildings, suddenly a big brand signage on top of an old six to seven storey industrial building made my day. the name and the logo has long disappeared from my daily encounter was right there – camel vacuum flask.
vacuum flask is a yesterday product. everyday family use electrical boilers these days. camel vacuum flask was one of the strongest domestic as well as exporting products of the golden industrial era of hong kong. its producer wei yit vacuum flask manufactory is a renowned home-grown producer, history dated back before mid 20th century.
the flask was named camel because the animal is well-known for its endurance and it stores water in the hump. the connection is straightforward and intelligent.
the company is still in operation but most likely has moved out of this building.
