2014.4.20 | 坪洲永興街 wing hing street, peng chau
visited peng chau two days before tin hau’s birthday (on 23rd of the third month of the traditional chinese calendar, which is today in 2014!). the island is festive. flags are flying high around the pier. big paper sacrificial offering literally named flower cannon was shipped to the island on the same ferry i took.
apart from big ceremonies attended by the whole local community, according to traditions, believers will pay respect to tin hau, the sea goddess, at home too by burning special paper artifacts.
this honest looking paper offering shop of course is well-stocked for the big festival. you can easily tell this is for tin hau because the offering is made in the shape of a boat.
