儒林台 u lam terrace

u lam

hong kong is hilly. back in the 19th and 20th centuries, some steep sloppy places were leveled to make space for residential purpose. this is one of those.

u lam in chinese connects to literature, academic and scholar.

from the calligraphy and the reading of chinese from right to left, one can breathe the refinement, smell the golden age and spirit in the air.

this used to be where professor hsu ti-shan lived. hsu was one of the pioneers of the may fourth movement in china. he was born in taiwan but spent some years in hong kong and died here.
