lo pan temple is a rare kind. it worships lo pan, a personality lived almost 2,000 years ago in china. he excelled in many things, but chinese know him as a carpenter the most. lo is regarded as the patron saint of builders and contractors. this building was funded and built by builders and contractors in hong kong and southern china in the qing dynasty to commemorate the god of their trade.
it is a grade 1 historic building and has many historic, architectural and art treasures; one being the delicate and fascinating shiwan ceramic figurines and details along the ‘vertebra’ of the rooftop, as in this photo.
another enchanting point about this temple is the location. it is in a corner of the elevated ching ling terrace in kennedy town. it feels almost rural. a historical, tradition and architecture gem worth a quiet home to retire.
