2013.1.4 | 莊士敦道 johnston road
this stretch of johnston road is full of wonder. a variety of shops survive along each other, mobile phone shop, fashion stall, book company, an outlet of a hong kong knitting company, an old style clothes shop.
the book company is called chan sheung kee. it is a publisher and the history dated back more than 60 years ago. the store looks like a stationery shop now but it persists in the publishing business. i always wonder what are in there on the second floor. the rows of long windows have the sign of the book company above them implying the space belongs to the company. i imagine the place is full of scents of paper and printing ink.
another shop is a branch of lee kung man. lee is a local knitting company producing underwear. one of the heritages of the old honk kong textile golden age. the golden deer sign is the living yet nostalgic promotion of the brand.
