港督府 governors residence

2010.3.7 government house

an annual event which I last attended when I was still a school-kid, and made it again this year. great timing, the azelae, all different species and colours bloom like crazy. azelae to hong kong people is almost like cheery blossoms to the japanese; azelae announce spring arrival to us. back when I was a kid, the governor house (prior it became government house) opened around this time of the year for 2 days a year, so that citizen could see upclose the office and residence of the city’s top administrator, and appreciated the beauty of the azelae planted there; so as to enhance better relationship between the government and the citizen.

you probably  have seen how lovely the azelae is on newspaper and news footage. so, let me show you another thing, here’s the stele half hidden by gardening plants and trees by the front entrance of the house. guess the colonial remain got the low-key treatment.
